USB Host mode
Hi there
I'm trying to connect USB keyboard (Deltaco TB-194) to my n810. but it doesn't work. USB Flash drives (Sony, 4Gb and Transend 128 Mb - this one is pretty old) also without any success. USB control switched on HOST mode, but after connection of devices to tablet nothing happens. Tried to turn the USB control on after keyboard/drives connected, but still nothing.. Maybe some component is missing? some additional driver? Thank in advance for any help. |

It's also described (with a fix) in this thread. Basically, to see whether your n810 suffers from this, switch to host mode with the tablet plugged into your PC (make sure you unmount the n810's drives on your PC first!!!), then unplug from the PC and plug in your device. If the device now works, you are suffering from this bug. If you get a 'device not supported' message, that's actually a good sign. It means you are in host mode and the tablet has seen the device. To fix the problem, download the patched kernel here and follow the instructions in the thread I linked to above to flash that kernel onto your tablet. If the fix works for you, please vote for this bug at http://bugs.maemo.org hope this helps, kernelpanic p.s.- If you have problems, post back! |
Re: USB Host mode
kernelpanic, thanks
it works after plugging/unplugging to PC. Then I tried to fix it. As far as I understand I need to download flasher to the same directory as patched kernel (this download was successful), but can not (An error occurred while processing your request) any ideas? |
Re: USB Host mode
Kernelpanic,
Downloads are Ok. I have flasher and patched kernel. What to do next? Please advise |

Are you running Linux? if so- 1. Open a terminal and log on or su as root. 2. cd to the directory where your zImage and flasher are. 3. type the following- Code:
./flasher-3.0 -f -k ./zImage 4. Turn off your tablet and make sure it is NOT plugged into the charger. plug it in via USB, then turn it on while holding down the 'home' key. If you're successful you should see a message stating as much in the terminal. If you aren't running linux, goto fanoush's page get his flasher and follow the instructions there ;) If you have problems, post back. hope this helps, kernelpanic |

Honestly I think it's a hardware QC issue with the pull-up/pull-down for USB mode on the chip itself. Probably only 1 of 100 n810's sold has this problem. Only power users attempting host mode run into it...[edit] I get one or two requests per week. The fix works every time. I ask everybody to vote for the bug. But few are willing to actually create a bugzilla account to do so... I just wish Nokia would upstream the patch. All it does is reset the driver on mode-change. It does no harm to n800 users or to n810s unaffected by the bug.[/edit] Cheers, kernelpanic |
Re: USB Host mode
Kernelpanic,
sorry, I'm not so experienced. I have n810 with Linux. When I'm switching to RD mode its asking me some pass, which I don't know where to get or how to set up. After that pls explain how to cd to directory, and it's better if you can write down what exactly I need to type in. THANKS in advance |
