Unlocking an N800
 

Whilst not paying attention, I clicked 'lock device' rather than 'lock screen etc' and I now have an N800 that won't let me back in as I can't remember what lock code I set.

I have tried all of my usual codes I use for this type of thing, but none are working. I have also tried what I believe are the defaults of "00000" and "12345" - to no avail.

Any suggestions for what can I try next?

Well, thats embarrassing. Turns out I used my wifes birthday as the code - which is something I _never_ do, as birthdays are predictable.

Code safely changed to one I know I'll remember ;)

Thanks for reminding me about lock codes (I hadn't set mine).

Now that I have set mine, I would prefer to set a longer time to auto lock, say 1 or 2 days. Anyone know where this autolock time is stored? Perhaps I can edit the file for a longer time.

I think it's in gconf, like the display dim/blank timeouts. Get gconf-editor and poke around in /system/osso/dsm.

I was going to say that I'm not sure we should help anyone who comes asking how to unlock their N800. But I suppose it isn't too hard just to re-flash a stolen N800 and bypass the lock completely... right?

I would say most people would just reflash it if they stole it.

I don't think reflashing clears the lock code, does it? (I'm not reflashing mine just to check, but I think I remember it keeping it when I reflashed...)

I bought an N800 recently. My wife liked it so much that I got her one off eBay. It came today - locked. It's in the original box with the manuals sealed, so i don't think it's stolen. I still have mine locked, so i'm trying "find" with piped greps to see if the password is in clear text.

On first boot out of the box, it had the "lock" screen. I flashed to diablo, which allowed me to boot without asking me the code. However, the code is still in there. The other posts were no help, unless the folks at Nokia moved the password information in Diablo. Any help would be, well, helpful. Thanks..
