Possible to replace the screen?
Yeah, the right side of my screen looks like it's been rubbed raw because of always using the scrollbar thingie when I'm on the internet.
Any way to have the screen replaced or is there any type of magical fairy dust that can be sprinkled on the screen to remove the marks? It's not scratched though, it almost looks like someone smeared gray paste on it. But hey, it's not like I'm expecting a positive answer on this anyway. :D Thanks. |
Re: Possible to replace the screen?
I would check, I think you probably have a screen protector on the screen (the tablets come with one applied IIRC) Try removing that (if it's there) and putting a new screen protector one. (There's a section in the wiki about how to remove, which ones to buy and how to apply a new one)
Hope this helps :) |
Re: Possible to replace the screen?
If it's not scratched it could just be a buildup of gunk on the screen. You could try using isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) to clean it off. Just make sure to remove the battery first and use 100% IPA if you can find it (the lesser stuff has water in it and increases the chance of a short if water seeps inside and doesn't have a chance to evaporate before reinstalling the battery). There's always the risk that IPA can damage the screen if there's any kind of special coating on the screen, but I've used it on mine with no ill effects.

Re: Possible to replace the screen?
Nope, I ripped of the screen protector with my teeth the first two minutes of receiving the tablet by mail.
Thanks for thinking I was incredibly that dumb though. It gave me a good chuckle. :D |
Re: Possible to replace the screen?
Oh, my bad, my apologies! No insult was intended.
Hmm... well I'd suggest a generic screen cleaning fluid such as you can buy for computer screens and a microfiber cloth then :) And go buy yourself a screenprotector perhaps :P |
Re: Possible to replace the screen?
I would like to replace my screen, too. I think I dripped something sticky and long-lasting on it. Like, say, honey, or jelly. Probably neither; it's dry now. I'll try cleaning it, but it doesn't look hopeful. It's only along one edge, and I can ignore it in most lighting conditions, but I'd rather have a nice, totally glossy screen. I also would like to replace the screen with an N810 type, for easier outdoor viewing.

Re: Possible to replace the screen?
well the n810 screns arent stocked at tessco...just the 800...i could purchase them...and if need be install em...i do cell phone repair so its no big deal....the lcd screen module is 98$
https://www.tessco.com/products/disp...44&eventPage=1 would be neat to see if the camera modules themselves could be updated...id be willing to expirement hardware wise...software..not so |
Re: Possible to replace the screen?
Ninety eight dollars?
Shoot! Shoot! Shoot! I was hoping for something along the lines of perhaps $4.95 plus 38 cents in shipping. Did I mention that I live in abject poverty? :o Oh well. Maybe I'll just create a streaky and scratchy sticky looking gray mess for a Desktop theme. That way, the screen would blend in quite nicely and it won't bother me so much. :D |
Re: Possible to replace the screen?
