Automatic Podcast Download

I would like my N810 to automatically wake up and update my latest podcasts. Is this possible and if so which software am I best to use ?

Thanks.:)

gpodder is probably your best bet at this time.

And for the 'wake up' part of the question: cron.

Re: Automatic Podcast Download

Hmmmn - has anyone actually got auto-downloading to work with gpodder? I have tried numerous times (with 0.12.2) but

a) not all the advanced gpodder options seem to be supported
b) there's scant help info available to clarify what is/is not supported or how it is expected to work

e.g. auto_update_frequency - units are what - I presume minutes? Mine is set to 20. What is then supposed to happen every 20 mins? For me, nothing happens

e.g. auto_update_feeds - I have this switched on but have never yet seen gpodder go get new podcasts - is there a combination of options that have to be selected for this to work? I have tried the intuitive options but have had no luck

(For completeness I also have "auto_download_when_minimized" selected, but again this seems to make no difference.)

BTW I don't have a "device" and haven't tried sync'ing to anything else, I just want gpodder to use the Wifi connection to go get the latest of my subscribed podcasts

While I'm at it; UK folk - have you found any decent UK-centric video podcasts? BBC don't seem to do these (looks like they trialled it and have now stopped), I'm currently subscribed to Sky News Headlines & Top Story, which are good and the video is smooth. Always on the lookout for others. They push many updates per day, would be great if gpodder would support a "get latest podcast only" option so that you're not presented with all the older ones for download.

Maybe someone reading this knows the answers and can help please?

Since the automatic bit appears not to work, I have looked into trying to use cron to launch gpodder to do the necessary. However... running gpodder -run off the command line says that there are no new episodes to download, whereas running Update from the GUI says that there are 57 episodes to download. HELP!

TIA
Paul
