N810 screen compared to N800

Just got an N810 in, the first one I've seen first-hand. I immediately noticed that the screen was different than the N800 - it seems to have a slightly 'yellowish' tint to it. Sitting next to the N800, screens with a lot of white (like, say, the Control Panel) simply don't pop out - the background is not a clean white.

I'm also noticing that occasionally the screen will dim itself slightly, even while in use (so it's not the pre-screensaver dim), then seemingly randomly brighten itself back up.

I'm starting to think I have a bad unit, but it's hard to say without having a good N810 to compare to. Any thoughts?

I can't comment on the quality of the screen, as I only have an N800.

The N810 has a light censor so it can do automatic backlight correction. This is probably enabled on your n810 - resulting in the "flashing" brightness.

Ahh, I think you're right - I must have inadvertently been hitting the light sensor with my thumb.

But, I still have the color issue. The N810 definitely doesn't have as 'clean' of a white than my (2) N800s I have here in front of me. If this is normal, I can live with it. But without returning the N810 for a replacement, I'm not certain how I can find out if this is normal. Hopefully someone can offer their experience.

I only have a n800 but a quick Google search seems to confirm a slightly yellow hue on the 810. The n810 has a transflexive (?) screen, so that it is supposedly actually readable in sunlight unlike the n800.

Thanks! I do see that a few of those photos confirm my observations.

I'd still like to hear from anyone who has seen both first-hand, though.

Thanks again!

My N810 appears white in comparison to my Acer LCD, so it could just be a very very small difference that "pops" when you have them side by side.

It is a small difference, and something that I wouldn't have noticed if I wasn't so used to the N800's display. But, I do want to be sure I'm not starting off with a "defective" unit.

I'd say besides the off-white color (in comparison), it has a slightly washed out look compared to the N800.

I'm really hoping someone with personal experience moving from a N800 to a N810 can comment.

Thanks!

I'd say this screenshot is comparable to what I'm seeing here:

The N800 just seems to have a bit more "punch" and have whiter whites. I wish I could see another in person to judge, though, because I can also find plenty of screenshots of the N810 where I don't see a yellowish tint.

Isn't there an option to disable the sensor if you don't want to use it?
