[Android] Android - First impressions
 

Thanks to Penguinbait and qwerty twelve the installation was REALLY simple.
The browser is nice but but can't play flash...youtube for example.
I like the history-view in the browser which is touch-flow-like.
Zooming is way faster than on microB. Waaay faster.
Some keys from the N eight-ten are mapped right, like zoom in and out, back and home but others are not like the whole keyboard. No blue symbols are working. But I think that this is easy to implement.
The map program is nice. Google Maps as a program...
Sometimes it is difficult to navigate with the TouchScreen in the Browser but the reason for that is, that the TouchScreen isn't adjustet properly.
Installing new applications is easy, too, but I was not able to find more than a dozen or so to make Android more effective. By the way, I'm posting thant from Adroid on my N eight-ten right now...
Overall it's a nice Toy and I'm looking positive to the future of Android on InternetTablets.

My First Impressions of Android on N800:

I find that for running in an emulator, it is pretty zippy. The browser is nice-- kind of slow, but nice. There is also no flash support (it reports that I have Flash Player 0 installed), as well as no touchscreen. NOTE: When the patch is released, I will make another post. For the most part, scrolling is smooth (with the d-pad) and pages, once loaded, render correctly.

Apps are a problem-- the good ones aren't released yet (for the most part). One I tried was File Browser, and it worked fantastically. I also tried to load XLive, but it didn't show up for some reason-- I'll try later and report back.

I'd just want to say thanks to everyone who put in so much effort to make it available to the masses (as far as internet tablet users go).

EDIT: Ack! When I load new .apk files onto the internal memory card and start up Android, the files disappear in the Android File Manager. After, I restart and check in the Maemo File Manager-- and *surprise surprise* they don't show up!

.apk files are moved to the correct location automatically when you palce them in the memory card.

Can some of Androids stand alone apps (like Google Maps) be recompiled to run on Maemo???

Only the kernel and some other parts are currently open-source licensed. So no for the included apps. Probably no for the rest, since they are Java based, rely on Google's SDK and Dalvik VM and will run on maemo only if Dalvik runs on it (there are probably other dependencies too).

That happens to me too. I believe it has to do with what version of the SDK they were programmed in. None of the apps that I've tried coding on the latest SDK work on my tablet. In fact they disappear. like you said, when I transfer them over. What we need is the latest version of the SDK ported fully to the tablets. The work is underway and almost complete, just missing a bug or two... (from what I've read)
