Another UMPC/netbook enters the fray.

Kohjinsha SC3:
- 1.33 Ghz ATOM (Z520)
- 1-2GB ram
- 60GB hdd
- VGA out
- WiFi
- Bluetooth (more expensive version)
- GPS (more expensive version)
- 7" 1024x600
- Convertable netbook (functions as a tablet)
- About the same dimensions (minus thickness) as a DVD case.
- etc

This is a different type of device than the Nxxx, to be sure, but incredibly full featured and still quite small. I find the size, and its convertible nature to be particularly appealing. Plus, this thing would scream with compiz-fusion; and by scream, I mean look really cool!

The price is the only aspect that turns me off. It's an import, and quite expensive ($~1000US). For that price, I could pick up an N810 and a lower powered netbook/lappie where I need a more complete computer.

If the SC3's price was $600 - $800, I would be singing a very different tune.

I think you're right.

I found a good (canadian) deal on an Eee 900 which blows this option out of the water. Even an Eee 901 plus an N810 can be had for less than $1000 (before shipping & tax).

I'm looking for an N810 (possibly WME) and a netbook. Both can be had for less than the cost of this one convertible netbook, plus I get the best of both worlds: the walk around web, and a computer for tasks that require more screen real-estate.

1.6Ghz ATOM N270
512MB DDR2 RAM (easily and cheaply upgraded to 1.5GB for $25)
8.9" 1024x600 screen
Web Cam (crappy 0.3MP, but I could care less)
WiFi
120GB HDD (This is INCREDIBLE! also available is an 8GB SSD version)
Big Comfortable keyboard (about the same as MSI wind)

How can you possibly beat that price?! These are also among the best looking of the netbooks, IMHO.

This will be my next laptop/netbook/umpc/digital-porn-viewer. I may actually prioritize it before the N810, as I can survive (temporarily) without the N810, but a full sized netbook to develop on is a priority as I am traveling more and more these days. Plus, compiz would look prime on this most plastic of beasts.

It seems that NCIX is currently shipping the Aspire One (white 8GB SSD version). I'm holding out for the blue 120GB HDD version myself as they have it in pre-order.

I've decided to prioritize it over the beloved N810. I don't have tons of cash, and this is a much more practical fit for me currently.

I'm intensely excited about this purchase. It's the first piece of hardware that I've bought in around 4 years. This mini is likely going to replace my desktop machine. In its tiny package, it's got much more horsepower, and although the screen/keyboard are small, I will use an external screen/keyboard when at my desk.

I will wait for news about the N810W and make a purchase decision (N810W/N810) at a later time. Hey, I've gone this long without one; a couple more months shouldn't hurt too badly! :)

That's an awesome little machine. It's the first alternative that I'd really leave my N800 behind for, in some cases; an Eee, Wind, or even the expensive "real UMPCs" always seem like a bigger auxiliary, to be carried with the N800. If I had one of these, though, I'd carry one or the other.

The Acer is on the top of my "must-have" list but I'm waiting to see the Dell offering before parting with my cash. I like the idea of a convertible but too pricey.

The Kohjinsha, or the Aspire One? I'm not sure to which machine you're referring... I blame conversation drift ;). The kohjinsha is GREAT except for the insanely high price. Still, if it can be comfortably afforded, it would make a killer system; tiny, convertable and feature rich. If I had the cash, and was assured that the components were supported in linux, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this system.

Sadly, price is a factor, so I'm going to have to compromise. Luckily from my vantage, the alternatives are just as enticing!

Hell ya! I'm not very interested in the 8GB SSD version. It's not that I don't like SSD (there seem to be great benefits), it's just that the capacity is way to low and will require that I'm constantly swapping files.

I to have been eyeballing the Dell E. It seems like a great value at $299, but I will only get it *if* there is a 80 to 120 GB HDD version, the RAM is easy to upgrade, and the price is lower than the comprable Aspire One. To manually install a high capacity HDD on the Dell E 8GB SSD would likely end up costing the same as the aspire one plus the added cost of time, so for me, the aspire one is currently the winner.

This looks good, but something tells me it's going to cost around $600...
