GPE PIM Available for 2006 OS
Looks like an initial attempt at the GPE PIM for 2006 OS has been released:
http://www.kernelconcepts.de/~fuchs/nokia770/ex_2006/ Instead of downloading and installing all of those .debs manually, you can set up a "trivial repository" (as defined in the Debian Repository Howto) by using the following settings in the Application Manager: Web address: http://www.kernelconcepts.de/~fuchs/nokia770/ex_2006 Distribution: ./ Component: (blank) Then installation is a snap! Quite a few things don't work quite yet. Alarms, though, do work, even when the cover is on, thanks to the new asynchronous timer infrastructure in maemo. The alarms are a little puny, though (in terms of volume), and I think the only way to change the sound would be to replace (in the file system) the wav file for the standard "beep" (that soft wav that plays whenever you start an application). You can't snooze, and acknowledging sometimes crashes the application. A little shaky, but it's a first stab at a very complex port, so I can't complain. Now that there's a repository available, it should be a lot easier to get updates, so hopefully it will improve quickly! At least until OpenedHand's ESD-based PIM gets off the ground... |
wow - just what i've been waiting for! had two system crashes during the package install using the app manager as described via the repository. After the reboots i just reopened the app manager and continued installing - no problems! so far, i've only been messing around with the calendar and it's just what i need.
One BIG question - will there be a *home screen* applet that would show/remind upcoming events? I would give up my ipaq 4700 and switch to the 770 completely for that one feature! :D -matt |
I've installed this package.
Yesterday, a new release of calandar. But, there is a bug: icon doesn't appear on the left side and after running calandar, contacts or todo, a blank square is on the lesft side and never an icon appear, even with others programms (like file manager, application manager ...). I desinstall all PIM package and reboot to retrieve a nice 770. |
It is a shame the built in contacts on the IT OS 2006 does not include a telephone number field. My Vcard file imported nicely, but without a telephone field it is worthless to me. I can not seem to get the GPE contacts to import multi-contact Vcard. I would prefer not to have to enter 200+ contacts by hand.
