It would be nice that FBReader have its own brightness settings.
Often when you read you need less brightness than serfing internet etc.
And would be beautiful that FBReader restores original brightness after exit. :)

You could just set dimmer colors; it won't help battery life like lowering the backlight, but it'll ease eye-strain...

Yeah, that's what I do.
It works quite well with an off-white/grey text and black background.
