It's a coming and going bug in mplayer. Some versions show this bug, then comes a version where it's right, then the next few versions have this bug again. This is really annoying. A/V syncing might be really hard with FLV streaming.
Upgrading / downgrading mplayer can help.

I currently have version 1.0rc1-maemo.27.n8x0 on my N810 and found that most flv videos I tried played OK without a noticable A/V lag. YMMV.
