Nokia Siemens merge
Any thoughts how the merge between Nokia and Siemens could affect development for the 770?
|
I thought it was just their networking divisions.
|
The next 770 will be 30 by 21 cms and run Windows CE.net 4.1. Also, it will be called "SimKia".
:) |
It's just the networking divisions. Should have zero impact on the mobile phone / gadget departments.

Hm...Siemens makes ultramobile laptops through its extensive cooperation with Fujitsu.
(the 770 is NOT a laptop of course, but it's at least tangentially related). If we're lucky, maybe Siemens can bring access to certain higher-end parts for the 770. (I've got a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo m3438. It's not the greatest build quality, but has very high-end components at the lowest price in Europe...) |
Well, I've got a SimPad, which is not a bad machine but, remarkably, seems to suffer from the same sort of mistakes that Nokia's 770 R&D team seem to have made: 64 mb of RAM, only one PCMCIA slot, USB is slave-only, no Bluetooth, no WiFi built in (requiring a weird combo card if you want both WiFi and added storage) and some more I probably forgot.
They're not the same mistakes as those of the 770, obviously, but there is an eerie familiarity there... Screen and battery life are nice, though... |
This is the end.

Don't you guys get it?
It's ONLY their network divisions. NOT their hardware stuff. |
Yeah, yeah...
