I don't get it...

Is this confirmed working with a tablet? Does it need additional power or it works from the tablet... ?

thx

USB 1.1 interface providing 100BASE-TX. Slow! Better use a 802.11g AP. While probably neither will saturate WiFi is more portable. Perhaps if you don't have a (portable) AP this is a small tool which would help one to get connectivity on a wired network whereas WiFi isn't available.

You'll also need a USB converter

N800 male miniUSB <-> female USB

I can vouch that having a usb net connection in your goodie bag is a good thing.

I have an old netgear ea-101 (only 10mb) - but it did the trick for me when the wifi in the hotel in london I recently stayed in was down.

Wired connection worked, and yes my nokia n800 powered the ea-101.

As long as you can find the right kernal driver to load and support the chipset - go for it.

Is there anything smaller, like am RJ45-to-MiniUSB nowadays?

This implies that you have such a driver. Did you have to recompile your OS2006/7/8 to use the ea-101 or did it just work?

Don't have one to try off hand (they wanted a rediculous amount of shipping to send one to me, so I'll stick with my USB 100M's thanks) but the USB LAN package described in the Wiki contains all of the known USB network adapter kernel modules and automatically loads them for you, so compiling/etc shouldn't be required (keep in mind that it only works for OS2008... but that's Chinook and Diablo).

Thanks,
-Rob
