[ANNOUNCE] Xarchiver port
 

Hello!

I would like to announce a new port of the Xarchiver program. There was a older port, but it was not too complete.

Xarchiver/Maemo home: http://xarchive.garage.maemo.org/

Maemo-specific enhancements:

• Hildonized look'n'feel
• Hardware keys were bound to do something useful
• File Manager support (you click on an archive in file manager, Xarchiver is started and opens the archive).
• Support for background killing

So far the application was not too extensively tested, but I'll fix any Maemo-specific bugs (and other bugs too, if it won't require a serious rewrite :)) which people will find.

nice. i have that older quick and dirty port installed at the moment.

will this one show up on extra at some point?

Right now it's in extra-devel, as soon as it'll get some testing and no serious bugs will be found, it will be promoted to extras.

Any chance for a gregale version for us poor 770 users?

I'll look if that's possible. I don't know how much API changed between gregale and chinook, N810 is my first IT.

By the way, what's the reason that stops 770 users to upgrade to 2006HE or 2007HE?

Fear and inertia mostly. The "hey I finally got this thing working like I want it to and you want me to start from scratch?" reaction. Also from what I hear 2008HE *really* pushes the abilities of the device. I keep meaning to go to 2007HE at some point though...
