How to create virtual screen
Is it possible to create virtual screen in omap X server or Xephyr X server, i.e. screen which is bigger than real display and which can be scrolled. I know that I can do it easily in desktop linux by putting
virtual 1024 768 or something like that to xorg.conf. |
Re: How to create virtual screen
Most probably no. Xserver uses kernel framebuffer directly and that one is allocated at boot time and the size is 800x480. Maybe Xnest or Xephyr could do it on top of normal xserver?

Re: How to create virtual screen
can this be done with any of the full linux distros?

Re: How to create virtual screen
The way I'm using Qole's debian is running tightvncserver with resolution set to 1280x1024 because it's quite fast and efficient to use scrollbars in local vnc connection.

Or VNC to a local VNC server, as XTC suggests; this is simpler, especially on an N800 (the keyboard really helps run a custom WM), but it does have some performance penalty. |
Re: How to create virtual screen
scrollbars would actually be pretty useless in my case, i would like to just have panning around with the mouse.

Still, since I don't think any of them are using Xorg, I don't think you can get it directly -- you'll need to use either keyboard or scrollbar(s). (BTW, 1024x768 works quite nicely on 480x800; one scrollbar only.) |
