Taking the internal SD card out of action?
 

Is it possible to completely take the internal 2gb SD card completely out of action? I want to completely unmount it and leave it unmounted so that it's not used at all, and just relay on the external card slot for all my file storage.

And the answer is Yes. I don't know how exactly, but it should not be that hard.

Look on Google how to unmount something in linux, then add it to init.d or something.

Well, I know how to mount and unmount in Linux. I just wasn't sure if just commenting out the entry in fstab was enough, or if I had to do something else to completely remove it from auto mounting, but still leave manual mounting as an option later on.

My bad, but I don't think commenting it out in fstab is a good idea. First of all, it will probably mess up the swap. Also few apps require a internal card (maps and such), but you know this right?

You could just try and tell what happened.

but once again, WHY???

You loose swap, 2GB of space, etc...

Hmm, interesting. I did some digging and MMC2, the designation the OS gave to the internal 2gb card, isn't listed in fstab.

As for the reason, it's mostly because I want to eliminate my seeing three drives when doing any browsing of the file structure via either the programs, or the file manager. I don't use the home folder, and the included second drive is too small. So that just leaves me with using the add in card, which means I've got half a dozen unneeded extra clicks just to get to it to do anything. If I could eliminate that, or make the OS and file manager select that one first when browsing for files, it'd make my life a lot easier.

I guess I really don't have to remove it persay, I just need to get it out of my way more or less. I know that, as a rather crude example, you can get Windows to automatically select any drive or folder you want as the automatic default view when opening Explorer. I guess I'm kinda looking for the same thing here.

If you do eliminate it from file storage action, I'd probably set the whole thing up as swap.

One option available is to format your SD card with a UNIX FS (probably ext3) and mount it over your home directory. Very much a handle with care operation, but doable. That or just boot from SD, where there are extant tutorials, howtos, and toolkits. With either of these, you can leave the internal accessible with VFAT for Windows access over USB cable. (Or do like me and use ext3 on mmcblk0p1 with ext2-ifs in Windows.)

Bad plan, too much swap can slow down the system a lot.

Actually, this whole plan is a bad idea. You do realize the internal card is where Application manager caches to, right? So, uh, good luck installing the next big SSU update.
