Need help in installing WiFi
 

I have got a Wireless G WRH54G router. I am trying to configure it to work with my WiMAX DSL internet connection.
I keep getting the error 'Check your internet connection'
But when I connect the DSL cable directly to the computer, the internet is working fine.
Please let me know how to go about it.

The DSL modem might be set only to allow your PC's MAC (low-level network) address on the Internet. You can either call your ISP to allow your router's MAC, or you can set the router to use your PC's already activated one.

Thanks for addressing this issue..... I have a Wireless G Router WRH54G...... I have a WiMAX connection...... There's no DSL modem...... There is a PoE box with a Data Out port and a Data In Port...... The cable from Data Out port is a Cat 5e cable that goes to the Antenna..... The Data In port has a Cat 5 cable that goes to the LAN card of my PC......

I have configured the required Router Parameters...... But the Lan IP always shows 192.168.1.100 despite having configured it as Obtain IP automatically..... (When I directly connect the Data In Port to my LAN Port, without routing it thru the Wifi router, the IP is something like 123.xxx.yyy.zzz format)......!!!!

What could be the reason for not obtaining the actual IP when I have already specified DHCP enabled in Router Configuration and my PC Network settings....

Your PC's IP address is 192.168.1.100 when connecting via the router? That sounds right.

The router get a single, public IP address from your ISP (i.e. 123.xxx.yyy.zzz). The simplest way to see this address is look at the appropriate router web admin page.

Then the router assigns private IP addresses to the devices on the LAN, 192.168.x.y being a common range of private addresses.

The router manages the translation between the many private addresses and the single public address (NAT)

Thanks Ace..... Finally I could not just work my internet on but also play around a bit more with the security issues of Router and Port forwarding menu to make my file sharing softwares work....!!!
