Why Does Application Installer.....?
Why does the Application installer populate programs we cannot install due to missing libraries? What's the point of being teased like this?
GAIM is just sitting there waiting to be installed, but it won't because the package is missing some ?libcrypt01 yata yata? file. Why would someone repository an incomplete package? I have 4 more program in there like that, too. Torture! I checked the main 2006 download site and the library portion only shows sqlite3 etc.... not many libraries yet, so that's not the answer, either. I just don't get it, heh. Later. |
Maybe try adding one of the Maemo repositories?
|
The repositories are what I am talking about... I have them all and when I look at what's there, it's way more programs than are offered even on the Maemo 2006 apps page... yet half of what the Installer offers for install can't BE installed due to these so-called 'complete' packages actually being INcomplete, missing Libraries in 50% of what's offered via the Repositories!
Heh, it's ridiculous. These packages should not be listed as available when actually they are not. Later. |
Hmm, frustrating.
What do the authors of the apps in question say when you email them? |
I never wrote them... I figured so many othr people would have noticed the same thing since we're all using the same repositores to obtain those files....
Programs that are available but broken are: GAIM, and GPE-FileManager. There was another but upon refreshing it was fixed. Later. |
gaim installed fine for me. I would suggest adding almost all of the respositories on http://maemo.org/maemowiki/ApplicationRepositories and then doing an apt-get update or "refresh application list", gpe-filemanager will install after you add the kernelconcepts repository. gpe-filemanager is very responsive.
