Cannot Uninstall Midnight Commander
Allow me to begin, as most people do, with a simple hello. This will be my first thread here, a greeting seems appropriate.
Now then, to the problem at hand. I recently installed 'Midnight Commander' onto my Nokia N810. The device is currently running the Diablo revision of OS2008. (I initially bought the device to try my hand at programming it, but most of my experience lies with Windows and Mac OS X, so please bare with me.) I quickly realized that Midnight Commander was not an application I would have much use for at this time. Being the digital neat-freak that I am, I attempted to uninstall it. Here is where I hit a snag. The application manager will not allow me to remove it, stating only: "Unable to uninstall mc". My first attempt at fixing this involved rebooting the machine (in case there were any mc processes still running in the background). This did not help. I then attempted to use apt-get (-f option) to fix the issue. Apt-get explained that a dependancy was incorrect and updated a package called 'file libmagic1'. As best I can remember, this was initially installed with mc. However, this change did not facilitate uninstallation through the app manager. Finally, I tried apt-get with the 'remove' option. This is output I was given: Code:
Reading package lists... Done To all those that read and respond, many thanks for your time and effort. :D EDIT: Checked /etc/alternatives/editor.1.gz It is indeed there. I'm not sure what the symlink is complaining about. EDIT 2: Ok, it's fixed, for reference: I just had to create a new man1 directory in /usr/share/man/ and apt-get works. Sorry to everybody for creating a whole post for this issue when I just had to remember a few OS X /*nix command line rules to fix it. |
