Dropbox is out!

But it is getting crushed by the digg effect. I have been a beta user for a while & I am very happy with it. I use it at work/home & with all my family members. Now that they have a linux client & an "Ipod interface" (whatever that is) I wonder if this is something we could use? Thoughts? |

Looks just like Windows Office Live Workspace.

Re: Dropbox is out!
Its totally unclear what you are talking about so I did some searching.
Here is a (recent) Google cache of the default home page of getdropbox.com. Apparently it is a framework to easily sync, share, and backup data. Does it work on the NIT? EDIT: No, there isn't, but the source is there and there are packages for Ubuntu as well. Question is, can it cleanly cross-compile to ARM, and can the dependancies be fullfilled. |

Re: Dropbox is out!
I doubt it would work on the tablet, though it would be very cool if it did. It's still an awesome service though. It's just what I've been looking for. I look forward to never losing a file ever again.

one can always access the files via the webpage...

As soon as some of the digg traffic dies down, I'll see if I can find out anything as well as reaching out to the dropbox team about perhaps an NIT optimized "view". The file versioning alone has saved my bacon at work. I would love to be able to sync across all my platforms! |
Re: Dropbox is out!
Guys, this thing is integrating in the different OSes file managers and automatically syncs your files from the server... So, it won't be easy to port - relies heavily on Nautilus. Also we don't have Gtk 2.12 and GLib 2.14 (probably they use the new regular expression functions too).

Yeah, Deblet sounds as a more likely target. :)
