Storage problems
 

Hi,

After some struggle with mmc2 in use penguinbait's automated booting from memory card completed successfully. I understand the specifications he included in the install

(2GB
1: 128MB FAT
2: 1.75GB EXT2 (BOOT)
3: 128MB SWAP)

but am quite limited with space now. I used 112 MB (maximal setting) for virtual memory and am now left with 7.75 MB of free space.

I did not yet buy the additional Memory Card as I am still deciding if it's worth to wait until midOctober for 16 GB microSD to come out or settle for 8 GB version.

To summarize - I was wondering, how badly is this virtual memory needed for multitasking and if I was in any way able to use that flash memory the device used to boot from?

You can turn off virtual memory because that is what swap is. Additionally, if you store things in <The name of your device> or any of its subdirectories, it takes up space in your ext partition and not FAT. FAT is pretty much useless, actually. (because you can store anything on ext2 and can't on FAT).

However FAT is needed for compatability with windoze.
