Re: App to read navteq maps?
Map formats and algorithms are the best-kept secrets of navi companies. Even if you can copy your maps onto the tablet, you won't be able to find a free application that can use them, because they may be encrypted and undocumented. Only Tom-Tom would know how to make use of these bits and bytes.

Re: App to read navteq maps?
Though there is a library to read Garmin maps, and with some effort someone would probably be able to work out the rough format, just depends on whether they have the time and motivation.
Navteq is owned by Nokia, so it's possible that we could ask for some api; we'd need a compelling app though. |
Re: App to read navteq maps?
Which TomTom version uses Navtech maps? AFAIK TT uses TeleAtlas maps (at least my versions of TT do), and indeed the format and all is kept very secret.
Garmin maps is a different story, as lardman says. |
Re: App to read navteq maps?
gay, so whats the best way of getting gps software on the tablet without paying for it?

Re: App to read navteq maps?
Well, I suppose stealing someone else's N810 is the only way I know of. Unless you can persuade them to give it to you out of charity but that's unlikely.
Anyway, all N810s come with GPS software pre-installed. |
Re: App to read navteq maps?
All N800 too, but no GPS pre-installed ;)

Re: App to read navteq maps?
If you have a net connection, maemo-mapper is good (needs net connection to download maps as bitmaps and routes from Google), we're discussing how to use a vector format for the tile and routing backend.
Navit uses OSM data and renders that and routes from it; the app needs some love on Maemo before it's ready for end users. |
