Gizmo5 - problems

Hi, I'm having some problems using Gizmo on the n800. I'm running the latest diablo and latest Gizmo5 for the n800 but for some reason, when I call my friend, although it connects sucessfully, neither of us are able to hear or see each other.

I read that someone else had a similar issue... can anyone give me any tips on how to solve this issue? I installed Gizmo on my PC and it worked perfectly fine as well.

Any help would be great :)

p.s - I had gizmo working perfectly previously... but it was about a half year ago and I believe I was running 2007OS

Have you made any other changes to your network?

I am running an old Linksys router and have to punch open various ports to get Gizmo to work. It appears that the N800 version of Gizmo must run on the standard ports - the Windows version allows you to set alternate ports...

See http://support.gizmoproject.com/inde...barticleid=354

I am upgrading my Linksys firmware to DD-WRT - however, the voip version doesn't help unless you are setting up you own voip proxy.

hmm i'm using my school wireless network... so i don't know. The previous time that it worked was also at school. Honestly, I'm still not sure what to do exactly about my problem... thanks for help though :)

Using your school network is likely the issue. You can use SIP on networks you have control over (can tweak/fix), or on networks which you don't control but are lucky enough to have SIP function properly on.

An alternative in this situation is to use Skype with your N800.

Skype is not SIP but it is VOIP and will function on most networks. Skype has ways to punch through where other VOIP has problems.

If you can get your friend to use Skype, use Skype on your N800 to communicate with your friend. I have spent considerable time with the N800 and these types of issues. SIP (such as Gizmo) is fine when the network is compatible.

thanks for the help~ I also use Skype a lot on my N800, but it's upsetting how skype & nokia programmers haven't worked out a solution to enable webcam usage.

I guess I will try to try it with my wireless back at home and compare. Anymore input would be appreciated as well!

You are right. the least you would expect for a big company like skype is to make use of the camera in the tablet. I mean, its already there, you just have to push it into their service! That or msn webcam compatibility and i would love my tablet a whole lot more. I can't ask other people to install software they are uncomfortable with just so they can see me. Not everyone is happy having to install stuff. I have a sister in Australia, and we tried Gizmo, but she couldn't see me, and she hated the program itself. I had really big hopes for that little cam, its a pity its not getting a proper use.
