Trying to install USB Control
Trying to connect my flash thumbnail drive to the USB port of my 1 week old N810. Found out about USB control from the Internet Tablet School. Getting the following error when trying to install from maemo.org "Unable to install usbcontrol. Incompatible application package". I flashed the ROM when I first got it. How do I get this app installed ? Thanks

Re: Trying to install USB Control
Install from Application Manager on the device and using Maemo Extras (chinook) repository, that's what I did and it works fine?

Re: Trying to install USB Control
In Application Manager drop down select Tools-> Application catalog...-> New button. In the Catalog details window enter the following fields:
Catalog name: Chinook Extras Web address: http:repository.maemo.org/extras/ Distribution: chinook Components: free non-free This will give you a lot of applications you can install. All the Chinook applications I've installed in Diablo have worked. They are both OS 2008, |
Re: Trying to install USB Control
Hey George,
Thanks for helping here! I'm having the same problem. I get the same message when I try to download the ubs control. I tried your route, but I just can't get it to do anything. I go into the Applic. Mgr. and hit "tools", then I hit "new", I type in what you said and it takes me to the Catalogs page. This has a list of catalogs, but if I click on any of them, it just takes me to the Calaog Details page, and I'm back where I started. All I can do is toggle between these two pages. How do I download the catalog, or what I really want, the ubs control? I noticed that on maemo.org download page for USB Control v1.0, in the comments section, the last comment from (2008-09-03 21:10 UTC) indicates:install file does not work because repository uri has typo (intentiol but it doen't work anymore) What does this mean and does it explain why people are not able to download this App? Thanks again! |
Re: Trying to install USB Control
o.k., disregard the last message. Newbie error. I played around some more and after toggling back and forth for awhile, found that when I gave up, the system updated and loaded the catalogs into the Application Manager. Then in the Application Manager, under Multimedia, I found the ubs control. It loaded successfully! Thanks for heading me in the right direction!

Re: Trying to install USB Control
OK, I downloaded,Installed it.
I can see it in control panel, But how can I use it? I have no clue, I've tried to plug in a thunb drive and a keyboard. nothing happens. Thanks Victor |
Re: Trying to install USB Control
I had the same confusion. The one you installed has something to do with USB networking. I couldn't get it to anything either. The package you want is in the canook extras. It's name is "usbcontrol". It's an application you run that allows you to select "Host" mode. Be sure to change it back to "OTG" or "Peripheral". Left in OTG a device can can be wired such that it changes to Host while plugged in.

Re: Trying to install USB Control
I'm pretty sure the General added this to the wiki. You can use "usbcontrol" or run the scripts from terminal or other program. Both work.
