Help! Installed Android, N810 won't boot or recognized USB
I installed Android, restarted it, and now it turns on to Nokia white screen, shuts off, turns itself back on and continues this cycle. Wont recognize with USB, can't reinstall OS2008. Any ideas?

1) You bricked your 770 by installing a completely unsupported (and beta quality) OS on it, 2) Then, because that went so well, you decided to brick your N800 too, 3) Now that you've bricked both devices, by installing an unsupported OS on them, you're blaming Nokia for not fixing it? Would you expect them to fix it if you had hit it with a hammer, too? I'm all for good customer service from companies, but this is hardly a case of Nokia dropping the ball. It's a case of you dropping all of your marbles. |
Re: Help! Installed Android, N810 won't boot or recognized USB
I'm guessing that nathanadamsjairus meant his N800 had similar symptoms to what his 770 had, but not for the same cause -- the 770 apparently had some hardware failure that would cause a WSOD, where the device is literally bricked (completely unrecoverable); this was going on before Android, and no unifying link has been found to the occurrences.
As for Android, I highly doubt that it's actually bricked (even if it is, John's point stands about expected support levels for installing an unsupported prerelease SDK (not device!) version of a third-party OS), it's most likely possible to reflash. I hope you've read this. In general, using flasher-3.0 under Linux is best, as it can avoid certain problems, but I think the Windows flasher should do fine here if you follow the procedure properly. Some people have reported strange problems with a non-Nokia cable and had success with the original Nokia cable, so if you're sure you're following the procedure right, try a different cable. |
ok mr marbles
if youd like to be more rude than you would or hopefully should in person than fine! Uh about me installing unsupported software or operating systems? when did I say that? come on? i said i was updating from online the one they send in your application manager? do you even have one of these. Im sorry i dont want to continue any kid fight stuff but if anyone would want to help, id apreciate it with all my marbles!

Are you holding the window(home) key while starting the 810? Are you using the original cable? I have had issues using old cables. The only thing that the android deb could do is flash your kernel, which is incompatible with the version of the OS you were running. This will not prevent you from reflashing the OS or effect your ability to reflash |

And even if that's how you installed it, that doesn't necessarily mean it's supported software. It's only supported (by Nokia) if it comes from Nokia's repository. They even pop up warnings when you download packages they don't support. Last I checked, but I could be wrong, Android doesn't come from Nokia's repository. Last I checked, they aren't supporting Android. So, installing Android on your ITs constitutes installing unsupported software upon them. |
