Pandora gets 256MB RAM and more!

Exciting news for those who have ordered a Pandora.
There's a last-minute change to the omap chipset combo used - it will now come with 256MB RAM and 512MB NAND (internal flash).
This was announced over at openpandora and gp32x fora today.

Yippiee! /me thinks that his openoffice will fly && that the n900 will have to sport the same ram at least!

There was also news of a possible delay (or was that speculation) and talk of needing to cancel CC orders and re-order.

I'm happy with the increased spec, not so sure what's happening about the CC order mind you.

Ah... delays make me feel much better. :p

Not really, but the possibility of canceling and (hopefully) redoing the whole ordering sprint sounds good. At this point, I think I'd go for it.

More likely, they only let people who were already in do the reorder. In which case nobody wins...

I thought all OMAP3's would have 256MB of RAM... Especially when the OMAP2 used in our current tablets already has 128MB? Would be silly if OMAP3 didn't have more considering it is 3 years (?) newer product...

EDIT: OK so it appear that OMAP3 SOC doesn't have much RAM in it (64K only). In practical purposes all the RAM is external, so it is up to device manufacturer how much RAM to put in the device... (Unless there is possibility for customized OMAP3 chips with more on chip RAM.)

Well, the issues for current OMAP3 devices is the availability of PoPs with more than 128MB of RAM. The only realistic option previously was a 256MB RAM unit with no NAND. Clearly, though, this is changing in the future.

Re: Pandora gets 256MB RAM and more!

There is a possible delay due to not all LCDs there yet.. only 640 so far, and they need 4000. Still, no significant delay has been announced yet. And hopefully the CC mess sorts itself out alright. The only ones we know for sure got a problem was the Paypal'ed onces.

Still, 256MB RAM.. that was my only wish w.rt. the original specs.. I always wanted 256MB instead of just 128MB! :D

Ta-t3, I can't find anything on openpandora's site or blog. Do you get some kind of newsletter? And - how comes Karel is still silent?

EDIT: aha it was on the forums, I was too excited to read the first post completely.

Maybe because he was "promising" that Pandoras will be shipping in November... and it doesn't look likely any more. He must be too embarrassed to show up... ;)
