Battery status icon disappears while loading
It started two days ago:
When I charge the N800 (switched on), the battery status icon on the upper right no longer switches to its animated state but stays at whatever level it had when charging started. When I click on it, though, it says that it's charging. After a while, it disappears completely. I can still click on the empty space where it used to be and get a message that it's still loading, but the icon is gone. It re-appears when I unplug the tablet. This is spooky. Anyone had this before? Also, I could bet that since this started, battery life decreased drastically (yet again). I'm almost certain I need a new battery now, anyway: the device was used when I bought it and it's almost always on (the original owner bought in in March 2007). Is there any known connection between the state of the icon and a hardware problem? |
Re: Battery status icon disappears while loading
Become root and issue a :
gtk-update-icon-cache -f /usr/share/icons/hicolor |
Re: Battery status icon disappears while loading
Works! Thank you.
(While being electrically challenged, I remembered my WSODed 770 and took its battery. It seems to be in much better condition than the N800's - why didn't I try this before :) ?) |

I have the exact same problem as OP, but I dont understand the solution...? I have tried to paste the above line into X Terminal, but it just says: Failed to write to cache file: Permission denied Can someone please explain what I have to do? Thanks in advance. EDIT: Read about root access in the wiki, http://wiki.maemo.org/Root_access - and got the problem sorted out. |
Re: Battery status icon disappears while loading
You get the permission denied message because you need to be root. You need something like rootsh before you can become root. So download rootsh. Then when you are in x-term type "sudo gainroot" without the quotes. Then you can use the command given.
