is it possible to tripple boot?
I would like occassionally to try different versions, so is it possible to have os2006, he2007 and he2008 on individual partitions on one mmc? If yes which os would be best in flash at that time?
I now have os2006 in flash and os2006 and he2007 on mmc |
Re: is it possible to tripple boot?
IIRC (but it's about 6 months ago), I had triple boot with 2006, 2007HE and debian on my 770. (I'm not entirely sure - it might have been 2006 and debian only, with debian replacing 2007HE, but I'm almost sure it was triple boot.)
My 770 died a sudden and unexpected death only 2 days later (WSOD), but of course this needn't necessarily be related... ;) |
Re: is it possible to tripple boot?
perhaps Fanoush is the right person to answer this. Is it possible to boot to HE2008 from MMC with OS2006/HE2007 in flash (or vice versa)

Re: is it possible to tripple boot?
Yes, at some point I had four partitions on 2GB card (1xFAT + 3x ext3) and booted all three OS200x systems from mmc. All of them use same kernel and initfs so there is no problem (unlike with N800 and 2007 vs 2008).
The internal flash is slow and small so I see no point in having 'normal' system there at all. I use it only for recovery, when I need to remove the card or after full firmware reflash before copying it to mmc. |
Re: is it possible to tripple boot?
Or if the latest SSU fails and you need to chroot it to clean the mess :)

Re: is it possible to tripple boot?
Thanks Fanoush. I just set up my 4 GB card for vfat, os2006 and he2007. Now I know it is possible to try he2008 too (same kernel). I tried he2008 once in flash and it was too slow, but perhaps on MMC useable

Re: is it possible to tripple boot?
Is it possible to extract the needed mmc part of he2008 without flashing 770?

Re: is it possible to tripple boot?
Thanks again, Fanoush. I do not know why I had not realized this method to exist earlier. I tried using Partimage from other MMCs and that filled up the complete partition, leaving no space for applications. Tried tar from MMC to linux pc and back, using 770 as card reader.
This way I really can make a clean set of copies for all three suitable OSes for 770 and keep them safely backuped. |
