Portable 3G wifi - has it's own power source, too. Looks like it may be a decent option for people not wanting to tether to cell. Of course we'll have to see what the plans cost, but for us N800/810 users not looking to buy a new tablet anytime soon, it may be useful.

Of course it may also cost as much as a new tablet. LOL

But at least I could use it for my laptop and netbook as well.

nice i"m getting one of these for christmas. http://www.autonetmobile.com/ not the same but simular just have to leave this one in my car. Might hold off to see price of the one you posted.

3G to WiFi has been around for a while now. We were running Cisco Aeronet routers that had a 3G PCMCIA card in one slot and a 802.11g card in the other while I was at my last job Since then, we've been pouring our resources into Buffalo routers and XOHM WiMAX.

The one I am referencing is palm sized and rechargable/battery powered. I also assume it won't need an additional 3G card or USB.

wow, that's a really neat piece of equipment!

It's much better than either building your own, or using any of the other 3g routers, because it can connect to both sprint and verizon towers (so it can hop around better while you're driving), and has cheaper price plans. not a bad deal at all!

If you have a s60 phone which has wifi you can also use joikuspot

I use this on my N78 and it seems to get more reliable connections than bluetooth and it definitely seems to be snappier.
I also use ATT $15 a month unlimited 3G on the phone and have not been charged anything for tethering and such.
( it sucks battery power dead in about 3-4 hours so I also carry a charger)

Yup, Joikuspot is excellent. On trains here some folks actually run this to provide free WiFi access to other people. The 'Light' version allows some protocols only (ie HTTP), but the full version isn't that expensive and available at the usual suspects.

Third recommendaton for Joikuspot, it is very good indeed. Bluetooth-tethering just isn't stable with my n95, but start up joiku, and I'm good for a few hours of surfing.

It's also handy to be able to use it with my bluetooth-less eee, as well as my wife's equally bluetooth-challenged LG laptop.

It -is- a battery-drainer though...

If you use it in your car you might be able to use the charger there.

There are also miniPCI (Express), ExpressCard, PCMCIA, and USB WiFi/GPS/3G solutions so it is possible to build your own. A portable laptop with good battery and such a card with a converter for the car charger might cut the bread as well.

While 200 USD is a nice price, be careful it isn't SIM locked. You might want to take out the SIM and put this in another device such as a USB 3G stick for your laptop to take with you, or your N900.

All this besides the obvious alternative, (smart)phone.
