Strange behavior of the touchscreen on N800

My touchscreen behaves quite strangely for the last few days. Either immediately after I turn my N800 on or after a short period of time it kind of loses calibration (like I try to hit some button on the left part of the screen and get a response from the application in the middle) and in a minute or two after that the screen stops responding at all. The OS works perfectly and I could use keys to navigate, but whenever I try to recalibrate the touchscreen I am able to hit the first target only. No matter where I touch the screen next it just says "try closer".

Funny thing is that if I turn the tablet off the functionality of the touchscreen is sometimes restored - but again, only for a short period of time.

Any ideas on what could I do?..

Updated: now as I have installed USBMouse it is fun to watch the on-screen cursor following my messed-up touchscreen. They join in the upper-left corner, then as I follow right with my stylus cursor starts to move slower and as I reach the upper-right corner with stylus it still remains approx. 2/3 of the way. The area where the cursor could reach is roughly the prism touching the upper-left corner and the further to the right side I touch the screen the greater is the distance between the stylus and the cursor. What kind of weird miscalibration could it be?.. Oh, yes, and of course I cannot recalibrate it as the tablet feels like cursor is in one place and the pressure is in another :)))

That was the first thing I tried to do. The touchscreen returned... For the moment :)

Welcome to itT, arseniy82. I'm interested to hear if reflashing was a permanent fix for you. i hope you didn't get a lemon. Keep us posted.

ty :)

As I said, first thing I've seen after reflashing was the desktop, perfectly obeying my stylus :) Unfortunately, after about hour of happiness the problem returned. The only (funny) thing I have noticed is that the troubles have began since I started to use my N800 as a player, thus keeping it in my pocket - on and in a vertical position. As far as I remember, I've never kept it working in vertical position before (it was either standing in front of me or lying on my hand peacefully). It may sound stupid but could it be some mechanical problem with it? Because the left part of the screen is basically responsive, just with huge (about centimeter) decalibration, while in the same time right side ignores me at all (I've seen many postings on that topic here).

Update: reflashed it again, works for now, I will try to use it for a day without re-installing any of my previous soft. Problems began soon after I install Canola player and after the last reflash I immediately reinstall it - so it might be the cause as well.

Update: no, it is not :((( Once again, after 10 minutes of use my clean, freshly reinstalled tablet loses calibration... Recalibrating I am able to hit the first target and then I get infinite "tap closer" for second, no matter where I touch the screen.

If it's under warranty get it repaired. If not, bad luck, either keep it as it is, pay to get it repaired or replace the screen yourself, either option will cost you more than the current retail value of a new tablet.

who needs a touchscreen? get USBcontrol and USBmouse and plug in a mouse and keyboard! lots of people do that even if their touchscreen WORKS.

that really sucks though, even if you are under warranty. what a bummer.
