Why not in INDIA?

One thing which I am sure of is that both Open Source and Nokia are very common in India. Specially Nokia is more or less a household name here. What surprises me is that even after having quite a few open source developers and many many open source users in India Nokia has still not introduced its 810 tablets and neither of its predecessor here. What exactly is Nokia waiting for?

Lack of data connectivity via 2G or 3G also (or else prohibitively expensice data plans) also.

Coincidentally... I'm planning on taking my n810 / n82 on a trip to india... in 4 days time! (I'm a little excited)

My plan was to pick up an Airtel pre paid sim with some data so i can blog / check email / upload photos on the move. Ive read Airtel is the best carrier, is this true?

What kind of gprs speeds can i expect? I know there is no 3G to speak of, but is there EDGE? Any advice from anybody in India would be appreciated

You are going to max out at 30kbps. But prepaid cards are so damn cheap in India.

I wish the US had such a free market. Dont count on the upload speeds to be good either. It takes a very long time to upload.

Unlimited data plans are 500rs/month. Which is about 10$/ month. And then you also have the option of taking data plan per day... like 15rs/day. This is very convenient when u want to use it. I guess wimax would be a better option because of the population density.

I am surprised, I was under the impression that there was 3g in the cities in India. There is good Edge and 3g speeds in many parts of Africa (I have travelled recently in South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya even Zimbabwe has 3G).
