N800 OS doenloading isses
 

I posted this on the newbie side but got little responce. Thought I'd try here.
When I hook my talet to my laptop and run the Updater, it never find my tablet. My laptop is running xp pro. I need help, I really need to update to 2008 OS

You could try updating from Linux, a LiveCD should work just fine.

I would try another usb cable, especially if you are not using the original one. I got my n800 recently and the first time I tried to update to OS2008 it failed but I was using a cable extender with the original usb cable. When I tried again with just the original cable, it went ok.
It could have been a coincidence but thought it was worth a mention.

Thanks ACE I will try to load from Linux. Johnnygal, I am using my original cable and have tried others, Thanks.
The next question is how do I get into Linux. Looks like there will be a lot of learning going on here.

From your message I think you are missing some vital instructions -
- switch off the tablet
- hook it up to your desktop with the USB cable
- start the tablet by holding down the switch on/off button together with the bottom button on the left of the tablet (looks like a house) and watch for the USB sign to appear on the tablet
