Fragostech Maemo-Mapper
http://fragostech.com/MaemoMapper/#reference
That is the site where you can go to when you have trouble setting up Maemo-Mapper. I kind of still have trouble getting a GPS fix and I was trying to follow the instructions under the "Failure to Lock Troubleshooting - The Tools" - where do you input "cat /var/log/gps-clockd.log"? - i ran nano and input "alias fix='cat /var/log/gps-clockd.log |grep fix'" but that does nothing - same thing for "cd /usr/bin" and "sudo nano", when i input that cmd in the xterm and then "sudo nano" it tells me to input password, but you can't type anything I'm not sure what to do at this point, even the battery-status application doesn't work anymore (meaning I input the "battery-status" command and nothing happens) any chance someone can simplify this process? On top of that, is there a way to reformat the device, like restore everything to factory? I'd like to start over because some applications do not come off the extras menu after uninstalling, infuriating really. |
Re: Fragostech Maemo-Mapper
You need to have installed gps-clockd from http://nitapps.com/. Nothing goes into the gps-clockd.log until you start the GPS in an application. There is no passsword, just try hitting "Return". I installed "sudser" to get sudo and it never asks for the password. It does sound like you have a strange problem that I've not seen. You can reflash your system to go back to factory configuration. http://tabletschool.blogspot.com/200...-firmware.html will tell you how that's done.

Re: Fragostech Maemo-Mapper
Okay, I downloaded and installed "sudser".
I entered "cat /var/log/gps-clockd.log" and got a message saying gps daemon started; then i entered "alias fix='cat /var/log/gps-clockd.log |grep fix'" in the nano thingy and saved it as .profile. (I edited it twice to make sure it was correct because I got a message saying "|" couldn't be read or wasn't allowed? Then I entered - cd /usr/bin sudo nano The nano thing came up again and entered - cd /var/lib/gps" rm nvd_data rm gps_last_saved_report sudo shutdown now Saved that as "fixgps" Then, I tried to enter "fixgps" but it said something permission denied. Then I tried rewriting the "cat var..." again and this time, when I tried saving it as .profile, it said permission denied again, WTF? |
Re: Fragostech Maemo-Mapper
If I'm not mistaken you need to set (chmod) the batch file properties to enable "Executable".

Re: Fragostech Maemo-Mapper
Question: I downloaded a lot of maps and realized that ate up so much of my storage from the device 256 ram. How can I change the default directory for the maps to be downloaded? I would like to have them download and save to my external card. Thanks

After saving fixgps you needed to run "sudo chmod 755 fixgps" while still in the dir /usr/bin. |

Re: Fragostech Maemo-Mapper
Whenever I input fixgps, my **** reboots, is that supposed to happen? It does it out of the blue. And I just noticed..
~ $ cat /var/log/gps-clockd.log [Mon Nov 3 12:26:41 2008] *** GPS Clock Daemon started *** The above I always get from inputting the command. But I never seen these two lines yet. [Mon Nov 3 12:29:35 2008] GPS activated. Time to first fix 02m17s [Mon Nov 3 12:29:30 2008] Adjusted clock by -5.08 seconds to match GPS time ~ $ |
Re: Fragostech Maemo-Mapper
Of course it reboots, you said you put 'sudo shutdown now' in the file. (without an -? option, it won't do anything so i'll assume that you put one in the file on the tablet but neglected to copy the line properly when you were typing the post).
