how to remove the default applet for brightness and volume control?
 

ive installed the advanced backlight applet but the default applet for brightness and volume control still runs, how do I disable them?

Go to the Control panel, choose Panels (in the Personalization section), and go to the Status bar tab. From here, you can reorder and (de)select the applets. (Some of the other applets are permanently selected; even they can actually be tweaked if needed, but the Display and Sound applets are fine.)
