screen loaded for 1 second then rapidly faded to right and becomes black
 

Got a new toy today. N800 with the above problem. It booted up to the Nokia screen sometimes, sometimes it showed random blocks, and you can hear the bootup tone of the N800, it then rapidly faded from left to right and stays black with a background light. Is this the famous WSOD?

I upgraded to the 5.2008.43-7, same behavior. Anything I should try?

Sounds like something similar to what was wrong w/ my N800: sent it back to Nokia and they replaced the "LCD Controller Module". All was well after that :)
