The new low? $220 for N810

Buy.com: http://www.buy.com/prod/nokia-n810-i...206228943.html

I was hoping for this price (or $179 ) before Christmas but it seems like they're finally coming down. I might get another one for video calling.

I couldn't help myself; I pulled the trigger. Thanks for the link.

I'm still waiting.

Actually, I'm waiting for the RX-51 (or maybe a Pandora, when if they show up), not a cheap N810, but if they drop low enough, maybe I'll get both...

buy.com Canada has nothing of the sort. The cheapest place, after shipping and taxes, is still $350.

Still? It costs less than the iPod Touch now, and I am sure you know all the fantastic advantages that come with the N810.

Re: The new low? $220 for N810

My rationale:
  • I'm paying less for a new n810 than I did for a new n800
  • I'm stepping up my hacking so a 2nd device with a hardware keyboard is nice
  • There's no way an n900 is going to be less than $500, so what's another $220
  • Maybe I'll be able to part with one and give it to my son (yeah, sure)
  • I'm crazy
  • ???
  • profit

Okay, but the iPod Touch looks like a bad deal, too, so that's not saying much.

N810 vs. my N800s, the fantastic advantages look like:
  • No FM receiver.
  • 18/32 the storage space, and that requires buying a new cards. Or I buy (which I would, probably) a converter and still need a new card. (1x32 vs. 2x16 now).
  • No D-Pad or menu key accessible without opening the slide.
  • I get to buy and carry another adapter cable just to use my stock of USB OTG junk.
  • Annoying and fixed camera placement.
  • Apparently sounds a little better with high-impedance earphones I don't have or want.
  • Has a (cooler) transflective screen, which is really only helpful in the big blue room, and largely mitigated by my Boxwave anti-glare protector. (It is cooler, though!)
  • Oh, and it has a built-in keyboard, which is really the only reason I'm considering one. BT and USB aren't that bad, really.

And $220 is still more than I paid for my first N800 over a year ago.

I always love the profit part. What's that just above it? :)

We'll never know, because he stopped telling us his story.
