I noticed that the earplugs that comes with the N810 have 4 sections. Can I plug in a regular stereo headphone jack with the same outer diameter without doing damage?

Yes, you can safely plug in a standard stereo plug (see diagram).

Notice that the tip (left channel audio) and the next section (right channel audio) are in the same position on both cables.
