Maemo on Google Summer of Code

Hi,

this year the Maemo community will try to join the Google Summer of code[1] program again. Google Summer of code can be a very good opportunity for the Maemo Community, and can also give a lots of good things, like new projects/features and new people developing for Maemo.

In order to apply to Summer of code, we need help from the community,we need project ideas, mentors and interested students. The mentor organizations submissions starts in March 9.

I setup a wiki page[2] with some information regarding the Maemo participation in GSoC, feel free to add more information to the pages, especially for people that participated in previous editions of GSoC.

The project ideas can be related to other projects inside the Maemo umbrella (Telepathy, QT, GTK+, etc...), or can be also new features/improvements to Maemo applications (Maemo Mapper,Liqbase, Vagalume, etc...).

With the help of everybody we can do a great Summer of code for Maemo :)

Re: Maemo on Google Summer of Code

I was scared to edit the wiki with the list of the project ideas so here it goes.

I would vote for a single-click install for RTComm and all the required libraries to make the built-in IM client work with as many protocols as possible and (maybe even more important bit) finally improve the built-in contacts app import feature. Wherever it's a bluetooth or SyncML or Exchange -- give me an option to load my contacts on my tablet. Oh, iSync support would be lovely!

thanks!

Re: Maemo on Google Summer of Code

A couple of issues here - we don't know what the IM infrastructure will comprise in Fremantle, so probably not a lot of mileage here until we know how much Nokia have done on this, also, getting it to install properly shouldn't be a really big problem (he says).

Contact import - again, we don't know what will be available in Fremantle (yet), though I like the thinking.

Syncing support might be useful in general, would need to ask some questions of Nokia as to whether they are already planning on using/already have such a thing.

And don't be afraid to edit the wiki, just go for it! :)

Nokia promised to give some clues about the ideas, in order to avoid duplicated work, so don't try to guess if the idea is implemented in Fremantle, jut add it to the list :D.
