Lord of the Rings - Interplay
I didnt find anyone else working on a port, so I decided to give it a try.
Interplay's lord of the Rings 1 update: working as well as I am going to be able to make it, so here it is: Step 1*: install Timidity from Maemo.org or app manager http://maemo.org/downloads/timidity Step 2*: Remove the soundfont from /usr/share/timidity (for space, you dont need it after step 3) Step 3*: download http://www.n8ftl.org/maemo/lotr/EAWpats-lotr.tar.gz and extract it from / (it will install it on /media/mmc1/ in EAWpats. You can (if space in / is an issue) extract this from the MMC and simply move it to the proper location when it is finished. This collection of patches is about 32MB and can probably have a lot of patches deleted if you only want to use timidity for lotr, but leave them if you want to play other midi files with timidity. Step 4: download lotr-0.6.4-ARMEL.tar.gz and install it from / it will copy the engine files, the timidity.cfg, the .desktop file and the icons Step 5: install the original game data (not the exe files) to /media/mmc1/share/games/lotr/ Step 5a: if you are using an N800 (or 770, though I have NOT tested it on a 770) you will need either a BT keyboard or a software keyboard that works in SDL games. A great keyboard and layout can be found from here: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...d.php?p=218041 (Thanks Addison!) Step 6: click on the icon in Extras and play the game... :D * These steps are only necessary if you want to hear the midi music from the original game. Sound effects and such will work without it and the game will play without it. Simply skip to step 4 and continue. Keyboard -------- Mouse support is not yet implemented. You must use the keyboard. Arrows: move leader Space: main menu Escape: exit menu, skip cartoon Shift: time compression O: options menu A: attack V: view G: get U: use S: skills M: magic T: talk L: select leader C: choose X: exit menu Cheating: W: wizard menu wizard menu can cause segfaults if used improperly spell H gives some help Shift or Ctrl + Arrows: fast movement. You can download a manual for the original game at : http://www.n8ftl.com/maemo/lotr/lotr-manual.pdf And a walkthrough on playing it at: http://www.n8ftl.com/maemo/lotr/lotr-v1-walkthrough.txt original engine work found here (http://www.wonderland.cz/lotr/) and it is still a work in progress. here are some screen caps for those of you who do not remember it... http://www.n8ftl.com/maemo/images/screen/lotr1.png http://www.n8ftl.com/maemo/images/screen/lotr2.png http://www.n8ftl.com/maemo/images/screen/lotr3.png http://www.n8ftl.com/maemo/images/screen/lotr4.png I will post a d/l link when I get the sound working... -John |
Re: Lord of the Rings - Interplay
lol. Wowzers. My mom would love you to death if you managed to get this fully working. :D (I'd also likely never see my n810 alive again as she'd use it till it died. lol.)

Re: Lord of the Rings - Interplay
Nice, the reviews make me think I'm the only one in the world who's used the multitap for the snes version of this

Re: Lord of the Rings - Interplay
Oh wow, that brings me back! I bought this game for my Amiga - unfortunately the box and all goodies disappeared in some move, though the disk (kept with all the other disks) are still around somewhere...

Still, it's likely the executable is borked, or doesn't like something in my AmigaOS setup. So, if you need a beta tester, give me a shout! Joe. |
Re: Lord of the Rings - Interplay
ok so I have fullscreen working with toggle on and off.
Sound is getting closer, it uses timidity to play midi, which i now have installed but there is an error in the timidity.cfg I have to work out. Sound effects are not working yet and will be next after the music. Another problem I had not considered was the fact that a lot of in-game decisions are made with the number keys and in its current form it doesn't like the n810's fn key numbers. that will come after the sound issues. -John :D |
Re: Lord of the Rings - Interplay
Wait, you need the original disks? Oh poo. I was hoping this would be free to download somewhere, data files and all. :(

If and when I get it all working with my data I will attempt to build the demo for those that do not have it. -John |
Re: Lord of the Rings - Interplay
The number keys are now working properly (thanks to some very helpful information from fanoush) and sound is closer but still not right.
Still to do: Mouse input does nothing Sound effects do nothing. Midi music using timidity crashes on the launch, however timidity will play the extracted midi files from the game if launched by itself. -John |
