Manually set IP?
 
Does that work for anyone else for their internet conneciton? I want my n800 to keep the same IP when connecting to a certain access point but if I try to configure it in connectivy settings and then connecting. It won't be able to connect. Turn it back to auto, and it connects just fine.

My laptop, deskotp, and 360 all have their own manual IPs that seem to work fine so I don't know if this is an issue with the tablet, the router, or just a unique circumstance between the two. (my router is a Trendnet TEW-432BRP).

It works fine for me with my Linksys router. Wish I knew what to tell you.

And you're setting the gateway & subnet correctly?

Most routers also have the option for DHCP to assign the same, specified IP to a device. (I, myself, am rather lazy and rely on avahi.)

Yeah, I am. Though I can't find an option for that (my home router ahs it). How would you use avahi?

Router most likely will have a subnet mask 192.168.1.1 (or other private address) > 255.255.255.0

Like yourself ive turned off DHCP so this might help; a example of my setup :-
Router IP = 192.168.1.1 / 192.168.1.0 / 255.255.255.0


click connectivity settings > connections > yourwifi > edit

connection name = anything
Connection type = WLAN (most likely for home wifi)
Network name SSID = set via router
Network hidden = yes/no set via router
Netowrk mode = infrastucture
Security method = WPA pre shared or set via router
Pre-shared key = xxxxxxxxxx

Advanced
IP Address = 192.168.1.94 (you pick within router range)
Subnet mask = 255.255.255.0
Default gateway = 192.168.1.1
Primary DNS address = 192.168.1.1
Secondary DNS address = 192.168.1.1

Yeah, that's what I did except it doesn't work. I left the secondary DNS blank though, I guess I'll fill it in (no harm).

Hmm... maybe I should turn off DHCP on the router then..

if there is dhcp on the router, set the ip of the device outside of the range that said server hands out. if not your looking at a potential collision.
