Navit: loading free Garmin map
 

I want to try the software, but it doesn't seem to load any kind of map: the software loads, but there is just nothing showing on the map area. The coordinates in status bar are all zeros.

I've downloaded montrealisland.img from http://mapcenter2.cgpsmapper.com/mapview.php?id=1862 which I found from http://gpsmapsearch.com/ and copied to /media/mmc1 (the internal 2GB)

What I modified in the /usr/share/navit.xml file:

- <navit center="4531.42 N 737339.38 W" zoom="32"
- Disabled the sample map mapset
- Enabled the Garmin mapset and pointed to "/media/mmc1/montrealisland.img"

The config file is /usr/share/navit/navit.xml, right? I edited it with VI under the ROOT shell to get write access.

Oh, never mind... it was the wrong path. I always assumed that the integrated 2GB was MMC1 and not MMC1. Sorry.

If only it could give an error message like "Could not find blahblahblah file."

pesky case sensitive file systems, no? ;)

I meant "mmc2 and not mmc1". I think that I have a file system dyxlexia. XD;

I'm trying to install BC Topo maps.

I've located the maps I believe I want, check the link below;

There are three options to download, source, binary or installer.

Which do you download?

When I first run navit with the default map of munich, the map was visible. I tried zooming out, and finally the map went out of sight and then i tried zooming in, but the map did not appear at all...Does anyone have any suggestion, as to what to I can do about it? I tried several zooming in and zooming out..but the map still refuses to come to view....Please help...

did garmin+navit actually ever worked ?
