run gpe pims through ssh tunnel
I found an example of an interesting work-around for those troublesome pim syncs. This guy runs his ipaq's gpe programs on his linux box through ssh:
http://electrons.psychogenic.com/mod...urPDAAgain.php Any idea how this could be done on an NIT from a linux desktop (say Fedora 10 in my case). This makes sense to me because whenever I'm at my laptop, my tablet is with me. When I am travelling with the tablet I just use that. So there is no need to sync. My efforts so far get me to the tablet's terminal from F10 where I am opening the applications on the tablet but they are not displaying on the F10 desktop. I have Openssh on the tablet and ssh service enabled on F10. Any ideas? Anybody doing it? Bonny |
Re: run gpe pims through ssh tunnel
If I understand you correctly, then yes.
I have GPE sync working thru multisync (ran on ubuntu with opensync GPE and Evolution). It connects through an ssh tunnel to the GPE PIM apps on the tablet. Though I can't get GPE to GPE to sync correctly. Only GPE to other (Evolution, the KDE app, etc..) http://www.cleardefinition.com/page/...d_GPE_on_N800/ That's the guide I followed. |
Re: run gpe pims through ssh tunnel
Yes, I saw the cleardefinition page. I could not find all the dependencies when trying to compile multisync for fedora. I did notice that there were some nice packages for debian. I will try the process on the site quoted but use the msync command line tool instead. But I'd rather not bother syncing. I would just like to figure out how to run the gpe modules in x window sessions on my fedora desktop. I think what the fellow in the link has done with his ipaq is quite cool.

Re: run gpe pims through ssh tunnel
Ohhhhh now I understand what you mean.
Yeah it's possible to do that too. There's a guide somewhere on here that tells you how to run apps through SSH. But I don't know how to do it myself. |
Re: run gpe pims through ssh tunnel
I found a bug report that describes why x-window displays cannot be forwarded:
https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2494 It describes how xauth and libxmuu1 must be installed in order to make x-window forwarding work. I believe I enabled the repos required and tried to apt-get them but the terminal keeps telling me that they are not found. Actually I can't get by trying to install libxmuu1, which is a dependency of xauth. I think the reason may be that they are working with Diablo 4.1 and those instructions may not apply to me as my current version is OS2008 version 5.2008.43-7. I thought this was going to be easier than trying to get a sync to work! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Don't want to give this up yet. Bonny |
Re: run gpe pims through ssh tunnel
You may want to look into x11vnc.
