Please fix (dot in "12.000")
 

Does the Maemo community only have 12 registered members? According to the link below:
http://maemo.org/intro/community/

that is the case. Can one of the web admins please please fix this?

It's technically correct, but as we generally target en_US on the website it should probably be changed.

Although that introduction will likely be replaced by a more up-to-date and accurate one shortly.

Hmm, I've never seen a . used where a , should be (. is for the decimal place I hasten to add for the Europeans), not in the UK nor in Australia, but perhaps it's just another way of confusing children?

it has a nice map, too, showing how the decimal separator is used. the digit group separator is something different, but you can assume that it is never the same as the decimal separator, so the map gives an indication of where, say, a "," is not used as a digit group separator

I for example am used to writing 40679,5 for 40679 and a half.
I can deal with 40.679,5

40,679.5 makes my brain stutter, and 40,679 without the ".5" is clearly "40 and a little more than a half" to me - when I first read it. Only when I realize that this can't be (because, for example, a community can't have "40 and a little more than a half" members), I switch to foreign mode... which is a bit like reading words letter by letter for me. ;)

Eventually we'll have to start writing all numbers with both a . and a , in them to avoid confusion. E.g.

0,040.5 or 0.040,5

dont forget that there's regions where a space is used as a digit group separator instead of , or . ;)

Ok so that example wasn't too good, try this instead:

0,040.563 (for the Imperialists amongst us)

or

0.040,563 (for the metric bunch)

That's even worse :P You're either adding digit group separators in the decimal place or putting extra zeros on the left end, and using the digit group separator. O_o
