My new N810 is faulty?
First, Hi! I've been lurking for a while.
I just received my new N810, and the thing it's supposed to be best at, it can't seem to do. In three hours it has only successfully opened four web pages. Most pages it just says 'connecting' and never starts to load - including the maemo.org page. I'm submitting this message from a μ$ machine. In addition, it can't apparently play streaming audio on the couple of radio station webpages I did manage to open. My network is 128bit WEP encrypted. The About page on the N810 says I'm running version 2008.5.2008.43-7. I've tried disconnecting/reconnecting the network, powering off, removing the battery. I just can't seem to connect to the internet reliably. So, do I send this back? Am I missing a setup step? I'm assuming this isn't normal. Also, assuming this get's sorted, how do you pull up the onscreen keyboard? |
Re: My new N810 is faulty?
I guess first try to flash it with the update wizard -- see if problem persists

Re: My new N810 is faulty?
Thanks GeraldKo, while I was messing with it, I thought of how I sorted a similar problem on an Acer Netbook. I found the power settings for the WLAN chip and turned power saving off. It seems to have helped alot. I can see Maemo.org now :D
Any thoughts on playing streaming audio or opening the on screen keyboard? |

Re: My new N810 is faulty?
That got it! Thanks sjgadsby!
Now I'm down to the streaming audio question, and a new one on how to get the GPS to connect. Y'all are great! |
Re: My new N810 is faulty?
the streaming radio problem will most likely come down to an issue of codecs (the website is probably using evil proprietary windows or realplayer codecs) - do you have an example webpage?

Re: My new N810 is faulty?
overfloat, thx for your reply!
Here are two the base websites that the stream is selected from that i've tried: http://www.thai-radio.com/radio.html http://www.klif.com/ (I think they're silverlite) BTW, I've tried loading the Access Garnet VM suite, mCalender, and the GPE calender. Are there any trustworthy calendar/alarm apps for the N810? I'm sure it's obvious, but I've been away from Linux (and even Unix) for quite awhile (in the evil corporate proprietary world). |
Re: My new N810 is faulty?
Ok, here's what you've gotta do
open your thai radio page - you need to get the direct links to your radio stations eg - http://www.thai-radio.com/asx/thai-h...915-dwe45r.asx (i have mplayer setup in the default microB web browser so i cant say the exact steps to get the link to the file on a default installation but there should be something like 'copy link', although to be honest - i got this link off my laptop because it was faster) open the default media player - click the menu -> clip -> add media bookmark name it whatever you want and paste the link (in my case, http://www.thai-radio.com/asx/thai-h...915-dwe45r.asx) into the web address make sure type is set to internet radio then it will add the station to your favorites under internet radio, enjoy |

add this link as a media bookmark in media player mms://live.cumulusstreaming.com/KLIF-AM and you will have your talk radio station |
