Nokia 770 as Acces Point
 

Hi, anybody has tried way to put the conextant chipset in AP mode?
It would be great to run the 770 as AP with a tiny http server!

AFAIK you can already do what you are suggesting by putting the 770 into Ad-Hoc mode by setting up an address to an Ad-Hoc network and connecting to it. Then other people can manually join that Ad-Hoc network and browse to you if you've set up a server. I have never done so but heard of people doing so in other threads.

I would imagine you could also route that interface to a Bluetooth mobile internet connection with a few xterm commands also.

I have not tried in 2006, in adhoc mode it worked great, and I even had found a dhcp server deb, but NAT (IP MASQUERADING) did not work. That really needs to be setup in 2006 os, DHCP and NAT, then you can use 770 and BT to share your phone DUN.

Did you try the manual commands that are typically needed to enable NAT?
I know when I was setting up a Linux NAT for the first time, that little echo "1" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward switch took me about two weeks of banging my head on the keyboard to find ... I think I still have the marks years later :]

... and of course the iptables command to do the actual NATing.

Again I only tried in 2005 OS, but yes I set it up properly, it was not supported. I do not know about 2006OS

Not *exactly* what you want to do but should point you the right direction. dnsmasq seems to be built in to the 770 which theoretically should provide you with a DNS proxy and DHCP if properly configured ... however, this is just icing on the cake. You should be able to set a client up manually just to get things going and see if things work properly.

Unfortunately, I don't have a Bluetooth mobile phone and I don't even think Bluetooth DUN is available in my area, so I can't even try to get this working myself :[

The techniques cited require Linux on a PC or a Mac OS (for flasher). So we lowly Windows users are out of luck? Any other way to enable this sort of ad-hoc network? I need to do this in a corporate environment; VPN has been problematic...

Putting the unit in ad-hoc is easy. Just goto the Control Panel, connectivity settings and edit one of the connects you've created or create a new one, at some point you'll come across a screen that says "Connection Setup: WLAN", "Network Mode:" and change it to ad-hoc.

DHCP server is anothe thing.

It's not quite *that* simple. Unless one enters the proper router and DNS addresses, the ad hoc connection won't work. So any existing or new connection that's set at the defaults to automatically retrieve those settings isn't going to cut it.
