Few issues. Dare I buy new 770?
Beside the dead pixel (white) right in the middle of the screen and the anoying self- powering up I have 2 other issues with my 770. The problems are:
* The screen makes some kind of noice. Not loud but noticeable when it is really quiet. Very disturbing. It disapeares when I put the screen brightness to maximum. * When I use the earphones I hear a simillar sound as with the screen. And when I put the master volume to maximum then it disapeares! Anyone else have noticed anything like this? Is it general with the device? I am going to send it back but I really like it so I am thinking of buying a new one. Do I dare? /Thomas |
knock on wood, but my unit has been rock solid, no problems of any kind nor any of those that you mentioned. I use mine pretty much everyday.

I would seend it back for warranty or return it to the store you bought and get a new one if you got extended warranty...
But no need to buy a new one if you have warranty |
Mine too started making this same strange screen noise.
And before each beginning of a sound, when there hasn't been any sound played for a few milliseconds, there is an annoying noise : the same sound you hear on speakers when you power up a hifi. It's quite annoying when using headphones. The device case also started to crack a bit on one side. I just love my Nokia 770, but the hardware quality seems really poor. |
Thanks for the input.
I do get a refund not just a new one. I talked to Nokia Online-sales in Belgum (I live in Sweden) and it was like I wasn't the first one with the same problems. I had "Made in Germany" stamped on it. Maybe mine just came from a bad batch. How is to QC at Nokia? I didn't have it more than a week so not much time for customisations fortunately. |
Mine says Made in Estonia, and I have had none of the issues you mentioned. They do sound an awful lot like the issues I have been having with my MacBook Pro, though.

I have the same three problems. The device is also made in Germany.
Screen makes noise when not set at maximum brightness and I sometimes hear a sound like "feeeep" when using earphones (you never would notice that with the very poor speaker, my Sony-Ericsson K750i has a much better one). Then the case has a little crack, fortunately only the part glued at the bottom that is there to provide stability to the interfaces. I have mine for a month now, and I hope that doesn't give problems with Nokia if I claim these issues only now (I noticed the earphone sound fully only lately as I was testing mediastreamer and the crack is only 10 days old. They really sell a lot of defective hardware nowadays. You buy a Linksys ADSL gateway and get an unstable thing you have to reboot 5 times a day, you buy an IBook and you get a battery that may catch fire, you buy a HP notebook and it makes bzzz when it is in low power mode, the docking station for it makes also noises you can oly turn off by deactivating the usb ports on it ........ Gonna get a valium now. ;) |
The whole world is going to H*ll en a handbasket!

Mine is made in Estonia and I have none of the above issues. Do I see a pattern here?
|
As mentioned above, I have these three problems and curiously mine too was made in Germany... So I'm clearly seeing a pattern here !
Could we push Nokia to "call back" (is this a french only expression ?) its German-made devices if we find a lot of people having the same issues ? |
