What is the "RECYCLER" folder for?
 

Recently I see a new folder on both of my memory cards named "RECYCLER". Within that folder is another folder and then a file named "jwgkvsq.vmx". These files and folders cannot be deleted. In a card reader they cannot be seen on my Windows XP desk top computer. I recently installed an application called "GVDOWN" which I later uninstalled. Does anyone know what this folder is or how to delete it?

RECYCLER is the Recycle Bin folder. I'm guessing your card reader shows cards as hard disks. Go to the recycle bin properties and turn it off for your drive representing the card.

Like you guessed, these folders must have been created when my memory cards were inserted into my USB card reader. I ran emelfm2 file manager, went to "media" and was able to delete these folders on both memory cards.

Beware, though: most usb viruses/trojan/whatever hide there.
If you also see an autorun.inf automagically appearing in the card, it's probably because it's been in an infected computer.
If I were you I'd disable autorun on windows (and google for it, since microsoft solution doesn't completely disable it and leaves room for the virus to propagate).
Edit: I'd also configure explorer to show hidden files and not to hide the file extensions. You know, windows defaults are there to allow malign code to spread, so it's a safe bet to reverse those defaults.

Thanks, luca, there were also autorun.inf files on both of my memory cards which I deleted. I also followed your other instructions.

In that case you should also investigate the computers where you put the cards/usb drive: one of them is almost surely infected (it's a simple test to do: plug the drive/card and in a short while the trojan will recreate the RECYCLER folder and the autorun.inf, analyzing those with an antivirus you can determine the specific infection and google the specific way to remove it. Good luck if it is conficker).

Guys, can you please help me how to delete the RECYCLER folder in my device memory and in my memory card thru xterminal or without using a pc?
I noticed it after i plug my n900 into a windows pc.

Assuming the RECYCLER folder is on the root of the device memory try typing in something like this into the N900's terminal:

Note that the N900, like all Linux devices, is case sensitive, unlike Windows, so you'll have to type it exactly as it is above.
