Cleaning inside the screen?

See? Uuuuuuugh. Didn't notice this until today! I do have some tiny sharp picking tools I can use, but I don't want to risk damaging the screen.

Also what can I do to prevent this, needs some kind of wadding or caulk down there... not literally, but ya know... like rubber insulation.

I wouldn't recommend using sharp tools to clean out the gunk that gets trapped between the screen and the bezel. You might try compressed air or the corner of a piece of paper. You can also pop the faceplate off quite easily, should you like to go that route.

I would recommend against this as well.

A common problem with the N800 tablets is that touchscreen response becomes extremely erratic or stops working entirely. Often this is due to some bit of debris having become stuck between the bezel and screen. Once the debris is cleared away, the constant pressure reading at that location ends, and normal touchscreen functionality is restored.

Preventing the problem by blocking the debris is a laudable goal, but I'm concerned that anything that seals the gap well enough to keep out dirt would itself put pressure on the screen.

Use the edge of the cleaning cloth that came with your N800 to drag the dirt out from behind the bezel. Doing it this way has the least chance of harming your screen.

N800s didn't come with screen cleaning cloths. The cloths are a "bonus" pack-in with N810s.

Ok. I didn't know that, my friends' N800 came with one. then use a piece of paper towel or get a microfiber cloth so you can clean the screen as well. :)

Then perhaps I'm mistaken. I do recall my surprise that Nokia shipped expensive devices in boxes not sealed in any way. Perhaps my N800 was a bit more "open box" than "new".

Yeah mine was a demo unit so no cloth. I do have a guitar cloth that came with my Strat.

Anyway I cleaned it out with one of those tools, I just need a way to prevent this.

The only thing I can think of is to pop the bezel off and build up a couple thin strips of screen protector around the edges and then put the bezel back on. Just make sure that the bezel doesn't touch the strips.

Removing the bezel and cleaning with compressed air is probably the best option.

If you want to prevent this, you should use a proper case, a better one than the ludicrous soft push that came in the box.

You should also check that the case is clean inside, and closed ennough to prevent dirt to get inside.

And finally, you should not use your unit in very dirty environments.

It should be ennough, i guess.

Guess I should stop keeping it in my pocket :p although I do use a belt holster that came with a Dell PDA I had... but it's not completely enclosed (that'd be a hassle when I wanna change a song).
