Unable to uninstall mplayer plug-in
Hello and thank you for all the great assistance you provide through this forum.
I am having a strange problem with mplayer plug-in (N810 - 5.2008.43-7) for which I cannot find a solution despite having googled the issue to death! I am finding mplayer plug-in very problematic on many sites, so I have decided to uninstall it. When I try to uninstall it, I get a popup saying 'unable to uninstall mplyer plug-in' with no reason whatsoever. When I try to uninstall mplayer itself, I get a 'cannot uninstall because of dependencies...' with the dependency being mplayer plug-in! a vicious cycle indeed. Even when I disable the mplayer plug-in component in the browser, it still remains active and shows up on media sites. This appears to be the plug-in from hell even though I love mplayer itself. Is there a way to deal with this short of reflashing? I know how to get to root in the command line. Thank you in advance for any assistance. |
Re: Unable to uninstall mplayer plug-in
Run a root terminal and type
Code:
dpkg -r mplayerplug-in |
Re: Unable to uninstall mplayer plug-in
Thank you for the reply Bundyo. I just executed the command you recommended and this came back:
(Reading database ... 17968 files and directories currently installed.) Removing mplayerplug-in ... chown: /home/user/.mozilla/microb/lock: No such file or directory chown: /home/user/.mozilla/microb/lock: No such file or directory chown: /home/user/.mplayer/: No such file or directory chown: /home/user/.mplayer/*: No such file or directory dpkg: error processing mplayerplug-in (--remove): subprocess post-removal script returned error exit status 1 Errors were encountered while processing: mplayerplug-in Thanks again for your time. |
Re: Unable to uninstall mplayer plug-in
Type (as root) "rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/mplayerplug-in.postrm" and try again.

Re: Unable to uninstall mplayer plug-in
Many thanks to both of you as you saved me a reflash. qwerty12, I ran your command followed by Bundyo's and all is well in Nokiaville again : )
Since you guys are the masters, I am emboldened to ask you if there is indeed a stable multimedia plug-in which is a kind of cure-all for the N810 that you would recommend. I am very happy with Canola2 for local files, so my main interest is a web solution for the browser. Cheers Darveesh |

Darveesh:
If I understand what you are asking for, have you looked at www.orb.com? Of course, if you meant as a plug-in for your existing browser, this would not be the case. |
Re: Unable to uninstall mplayer plug-in
Thanks for the reply coosbaytv. I actually meant a plug-in for the microbrowser on the N810 to handle the media on various websites.
That said, however, I love the link you provided and will be utilizing it immediately given its amazing capabilities. Thanks again for your time. |
Re: Unable to uninstall mplayer plug-in
Sorry, there are no other media plugins available. Even for desktop linux, mplayerplug-in handles streams best IMHO (but not good enough :().
