repairing the headphone plug

i made the mistake of taking my n770 to work in order to listen to music. long story short, the headphone jack was under pressure in my pocket. now its broken, the ?pins? in there are deformed. when i just push the plug in, i only have mono sound. when i tip the jack a little bit to the side, its stereo again. i dont have tools to open the n770, what could i do?

this was such a downer for me that i left the n770 for a few weeks untouched, i was even planning on returning it. but now i have "restored" it, installed new tools etc and the only thing thats still annoying is that i cant use the headphone plug as it is intended.

any ideas?

Probably not much help, but I did the same thing. What i've seen elsewhere, is that re-soldering some internal component(s) could fix it. This is waaay beyond my comfort zone so i've not tried it. Perhaps a Nokia repair center?

Just to be sure, try the N770 with another headphone. I have almost replaced the headphone socket in my PC but it turned out to be that the jack was the culprit.

I have the same issue with my device. I used it for listening music and one day it started to sound just in mono :(

I have tried with 4 differents headphones with no luck

Not to be a smartass... but I just removed the headphones entirely when putting it in my pocket. I don't know how big your guys pockets are but it's a snug fit on it's own much less with a big connector sticking out of the side.

It may not require resoldering. If the contacts were just pushed too far apart by the pressure, then *maybe* using a dental pick (I buy them at a computer surplus store) you can pull the contact back.

Sheet happens... I`ve this breakage to. Fix this problem by resoldering broken contact (top-right contact):

Do you mean the contact in the black box in the middle-botton of the device?

Did you open and solded it?

Yes i did. And else I made substrate for pressure by upper device case to jack.

PS: Of course, i`ve losed my warranty. But this warranty for me was nothing because i living in country where 770 are not selling and supporting.
