Re: does micro sd card class matter?
The class rating replaced the "x" speed rating (4x, 12x, 155x, etc.) of non SDHC cards, but is primarily used only for SDHC cards, which a 2GB card is not. Between several cameras, phones, and other electronic devices, I've bought quite a few SD and SDHC cards, and I've never yet to even see a Class 2 card and never seen a 2GB or less card with a Class rating instead of a "x" speed rating. The slowest I've seen is a Class 4, and those are usually dirt cheap (like US$6 for a 4GB Class 4 card). If you're paying more than that for a 2GB Class 2 card, you may want to look into getting something more for less money.
The Class or speed rating of SD/SDHC cards typically refers to write speed. The read speed is typically only limited by the hardware you are using it in. So if you're predominately reading data (playing MP3's, videos, etc.) with your SD cards, then it doesn't really pay to go for the faster classes/speeds, because the price will typically go up significantly with the better speed rating. It will take longer to initially copy the data to the card, but if you're patient and predominately read data of the card anyway, then it's probably better (especially financially) to just go with a Class 4 card.
